Paul Veitch

Awarded 2018

Paul Veitch

As the second most-capped cricketer at the club, Paul Veitch’s playing record is elite. With over 300 games played across all grades, Veitchy has represented the club across five separate decades: 1980s, 1990s, 2000s, 2010s and 2020s. His longevity means that he has played with hundreds of team mates and in many cases different generations across families.

Everyone would have the same experience of playing alongside him - a passionate competitor and unstoppable batsman if he had his eye in. His record partnership with great mate Darren Niners Warwick of 521* saw both of them score double-tons against Traralgon West in what folklore remembers as the Valentine’s Day Massacre.

As he matured, Paul lost the iconic heavy-rocker mullet and became an outstanding on-field mentor leading both B and C grade as captain and coaching junior teams. His leadership style was gentle and encouraging, never afraid to offer opportunities to younger or less experienced players. Even though he may have matured graciously he still hates losing and we can’t wait to see him still playing in the years ahead with other father-son combinations the likes of Anthofer, Motta and Wilhelm.
