ROUND 9 - GLENGARRY @ FRED KING OVAL
The rain forced our Round 9 game to be moved to Glengarry from John Black Oval for the first match of 2018. Glengarry won the toss and sent CATS in to bat with a good amount of moisture and cloud cover overhead to help the bowlers. Glengarry's bowlers rose to the occasion with Cameron Graham (5/23) and Max Merton (3/29) both taking early CATS wickets. Deep in trouble with the score at 6/36, Callum Stewart joined his skipper, Ben Julin, at the crease for a partnership which would steady the innings for the boys in red and blue. The pair put on a 7th wicket stand of 76 before Stewart (25) was caught behind. Ben Julin (54) fell to Graham as he tried to bat with the tail as CATS ended up all out for 122 in the 40th over.
Early wickets were needed as CATS took the field to try and defend their a below par average. However, bowling has been the CATS strength this season and early inroads were again made to the Pies top order. Callum Stewart (1/14 off 4) claimed the wicket of Frank Marks before Adam Nunn (2/0 off 3) entered the attack to claim 2 wickets without conceding a run, including danger man Kent Hammond. With the score at 3/29 the rain came down out at Glen, with no relent coming before the game was abandoned. It was a dissapointing end to a game which was right in the balance and 6 valuable points on offer for both sides.
MAN OF THE MATCH: BEN julin 54
